Community & culture
We give our spirits throughout our lives to the people we meet and the things we create. In some native cultures, taking someone’s photograph can be like taking their spirit. When someone photographes you, it can seem both awkward and flattering at the same time. But it is also important to preserve culture for the future, so there’s an important task for both the photographer and the subject. The photographer has to honour the spirit of the individual – giving and taking a bit of it under an agreement, for a meaningful cause.
These photos, which are all for sale, have been taken in the last 10 years, mainly for the children’s book series “The Land Is Our Storybook”. If you or your family members are portrayed in these pictures, feel free to download the photos or contact Tessa for a digital copy in a higher resolution.
